About Us
ESSI seeks to create more sustainable, ethical, and socially responsible societies in small countries in Europe and worldwide.
Through this strategy of “focus through convergence,” ESSI addresses the challenges facing modern small states – particularly in the European context, generates ideas in its areas of expertise, and creates platforms for the implementation of these ideas in Europe and the wider world.
ESSI aids in realizing the potential of collaboration by developing and promoting research among the small states of Europe. As an independent entity, ESSI functions as a locus for advanced scholarship and focused inquiry with a commitment to the highest standards. ESSI links research, theory, and practice through a structure that allows it to draw from the best that the international community has to offer. The result is an invigorating learning and intellectual environment with depth and flexibility in research resources, and funding stable enough to ensure that it will continue to operate into the foreseeable future.
The Principality counts 125 nationalities in its population, and exemplifies the way in which a sovereign state enacts laws to protect those living within its confines in a democratic, systematic way.
Further, the Principality’s success is based not only on its openness to the world, but on the way it has exhibited a respect for differences and a willingness to embrace the unfamiliar, and displayed a profound desire for peace.
